What is this forum site?
It is the online community of the BS Mathematics students of UP Cebu College, with a vision of providing an alternative way for different walks of the mathematics world to converge, as well as to share knowledge in Mathematics.
It also complements the organization's main site, with a discussion forum on current and upcoming events and activities of UP Cebu's Math Majors' Circle (MMC).
The History
It is the co-founded and currently administered by Alexis Almocera, Twinkle Denoyo, Antonio Magalona, and Cary Salces, the people behind the development of the MMC website. They are all currently in their 4th year, and will hopefully be graduating soon.
It started off during the project development -- which was also a practicum for these interns at that time -- when there was a need to complement the site with an online discussion forum.
In no time, it was built, using phpBB (courtesy of Forum Motion). This site is formally established on May 5, 2008. Though it could have been developed manually just like the site (which can be quite productive and worth additional training), time constraints and minimal resources had hindered us to do so.
Soon, there was a need to share what we know about math. The prospect: to provide assistance with various Mathematical topics up to undergraduate college level.
Imagine that -- spending a bit of your internet time to share something here or help someone in need.
Immediately, a tutorial service has been set up with the aim of providing access to people who are seeking tutorial services in Math. Those who are willing to sign up math tutors can post their profiles and schedules. Furthermore, forums were created to tackle different mathematical topics... mostly undergraduate college subjects, plus high school math, as well as to cater to MMC events and happenings, hopefully providing an "alternate" general assembly (it must be stressed that this in no way shall eliminate the real general assembly, neither will the forum site obstruct so much from the regular classroom activities).
The forum is still at its infancy, but with high hopes of becoming a thriving community of Math Majors, enthusiasts, experts, and the like... recently, it has been announced during June 10, 2008 -- Freshie's Orientation -- of its presence. A confirmed launch has yet to be made by the co-founders, but the forum is now operation... call it an unofficial launch.
